Happy 2023 and 2022 Review

Happy New Year!

As Aura Home Women Vets looks forward to the New Year in 2023, we would like to take a quick look back on 2022 and say thank you to all who have supported us along the way.

Service Impact

In 2022 Aura Home Women Vets served 36 Women Veterans, 27 Children, 2 Partners, 8 Adult Dependents, and 3 Male Veterans. Financial assistance & resources were provided including chaperone service to VA, court escort, car repairs, utility payments, rent payments, hotel stays, hospital advocacy, eviction prevention, care packages, and resource information administered.

Just before Thanksgiving, Aura Home Women Vets' intervention and follow-through was instrumental in preventing the imminent eviction of a female veteran (and her young child) that was due to appear in court for eviction proceedings in two days and would have been evicted without Alyce's knowledge, advice, and providing information on who to contact as well as supplying emergency funds to ensure she could remain in her home.

Events & Community Engagement

2022 was a really busy year as Alyce again navigated numerous projects, events, grant presentations, webinars, veteran assistance, board meetings, facility planning meetings & tours, and a variety of other things. Events included:  Valentine's Day Care Packages Distribution; Volunteer Expo Junior League; Women's History Month Care Package Distribution; Felicia Reeves Home Architectural Plan Design Change; Sawyer Springs Vineyard - Cornhole Tournament; Bring-It Home Conference; Girl Scout Cookie Pick-up & Delivery to 13 Agencies; "Quilt of Valor" Presentation; "Full Moon in June"  Annual Fundraiser; Two Trees Distillery's Tim Smith Celebrity Signing Event; Hendersonville's Fourth of July Parade; MIX 96.5 - Alyce Radio Interview on Women Veterans & Homelessness; 5 - Homeless Resource Fairs & Veteran Stand-Downs; Blue Ridge Pride Booth; Veterans Career Services Job Resource Fair; Affordable Housing Fair; Community Foundation of Hendersonville - Passenger Van Grant ($20k Awarded!!); D-9 Brewing Company Event; Eaton Corp.- Grant Recipient Reception ($20k Awarded!); Receiving, Sorting, & Distributing Goods & Care Packages for Christmas (Special Thanks to Bob & Terry Yuziuk & Friends; and CVMA - Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association; for exceeding all expectations!).

Building Project

The Felicia Reeves Home renovations continue with significant  Architectural revisions in progress as the property was re-zoned to R-2 and plans are being modified to facilitate a phased opening which will expedite housing a few women veterans before full project completion. Work was ongoing, and Eaton Corp "Day of Service" volunteers assisted in painting a shed and cleaning of grounds, also professional work was done to address some drainage concerns, the security system was installed, and progress is happening on additional electrical installation, revised plumbing layout, and soon work will begin on addressing foundation inspections.

Thank You For Your Continued Support!

Thank you to all that have volunteered your time, treasure, and talents, to make another rewarding year for Aura Home Women Vets, allowing us to assist women veterans in achieving successful milestones on their path of independent living.  I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Board of Directors, advisors, grant writer, webmaster, sponsors, grant providers, and financial contributors as it is your donations, grants, and in-kind contributions, in addition to the many volunteers, that without your interest, we would not be able to give support when there is nowhere else for our women veterans in need to go to for help.

Since founding Aura Home Women Vets in 2014, and previously knowing what it is like to become homeless, I genuinely appreciate your continued support.
