Homeless Women Vets in Crisis

Homeless Veteran Woman

Homeless Veteran WomenFor a moment, imagine you are standing proudly wearing a United States military uniform, willing to give your all if that’s what it takes to keep Americans and their families safe.  Your days and nights are not easy, but you know someone has your back and you know you have a place to sleep and food to eat.

Fast forward and imagine now, you are no longer in the military.  Things have not been going so great, and you have nowhere to turn.  You are a woman facing unsurmountable circumstances and before you know it, you have no place to call home.  You once gave security to your fellow Americans, but now you are a woman forgotten.  A Veteran left behind on the streets and you feel nobody cares.

But somebody does care, and Aura Home Women Vets needs you now  to join us this Veterans Day and beyond to show our women Veterans how much we appreciate their sacrifice.  AHWV is renovating a 7,700 sq. ft. home in Hendersonville, NC to provide transitional housing for our women Veterans facing homelessness.  We invite you to show your support of America’s women Veteran’s by investing in the Felicia Reeves Home.
Why do we need a home specifically for women Veterans?

  • In western North Carolina, the number of beds available to female versus male Veterans is extremely disproportionate with only 20 beds available to females and 244 beds available to male Veterans, leaving thousands of women Veterans in the state without options.
  • No transitional housing options specific for the unique needs and circumstances facing women Veterans who are homeless. Women Veterans lives differs from civilian homeless women where they feel like outcasts among people without experience with military life.
  • No other housing alternative programs allow an individual to keep their pets, which are often emotional support animals for Veterans in crisis.

Aura Home has been providing services to women Veterans since 2014.  We need you now so we can further our mission and open the Felicia Reeves Home and give up to 12 women Veterans, their dependents, and their pets security as they regain their independence and stand proudly once again.

Please donate now and help us show Women Veterans we have not forgotten them.

Sincerely,
Alyce Knaflich
